EXPERIENCE
THE KAPOAH
ADVENTURE
Setting out on the trails, seeking adventure, escaping the daily grind, gaining some perspective on a difficult situation, or initiating a change in one’s life—these are all good reasons to set out on a journey. Hitting the road is a phenomenon that has been around for over a thousand years. While Santiago de Compostela has become the symbol of pilgrimage over time, nothing prevents the emergence of other routes, such as the KAPOAH-Québec (Canada) Camino pro-Compostella.
Kapoah, a contraction of two Indigenous words meaning “path,” KAPatakan in Innu and OAHah in Wendat, is a pilgrimage promoted as a “pro-Compostela”—that is, a North American alternative to the European pilgrimage leading to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Walkers on the KAPOAH-Québec (Canada) pro-Compostella Camino follow various routes originating from these two Indigenous nations over a period of approximately thirty (30) days.
