Physical Training

Walking 10 km or more a day isn’t something you can just wing.

The body must prepare itself for the significant effort this requires. No matter how many days you devote to KAPOAH, you still need to train. This training will be all the more essential and demanding if the hike takes on the nature of a “Compostela in Quebec”—lasting from ten days to a month—and becomes a KAPOAH-Quebec (Canada)“Pro-Compostela” Camino.

For a three- or seven-day hike

Three (3) months of preparation is the minimum required to start with a few kilometers—two (2) to three (3) each day during the first month, then three (3) to five (5) km the following month, and then five (5) to eight (8), or even ten (10), two or three times a week during the month leading up to the long-distance walk or pilgrimage, as the case may be. KAPOAH will be more rewarding on a personal and spiritual level if the walkers are physically fit enough to meet the challenges of the route.

Doing this workout with the kids, tailored to their abilities, prepares them and gets them involved in a wonderful family adventure.

For a larger-scale march

Five to six (5–6) months of preparation are the minimum required, starting with a few kilometers: two (2) to three (3) each day during the first month, then three (3) to five (5) km the following month, and finally five (5) to eight (8)—or even ten (10)—a few times a week during the three months leading up to departure. Over the course of the past month, a 15-kilometer walk would be beneficial. The goal is to build endurance through practice. Being in good physical shape to take on the challenge of the Camino de Santiago in Quebec—that is, the Camino pro-Compostelle KAPOAH in Quebec (Canada)—makes this long-distance walk more rewarding on both a personal and spiritual level.

Also, be sure to prepare yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually
